How to sand a hardwood floor by hand.
How to sand uneven hardwood floors.
To sand hardwood floors start by renting a drum sander and installing a coarse grit sandpaper onto the sander which will remove any noticeable damage or old finish from your floors.
If you have really really uneven floorboards you could start by sanding with the large drum sander diagonally to the floorboards to even things out and then move on to sanding in the direction of the boards.
I ve read of course after sanding with 20 36 60 100 grits normally that if the floor is uneven that one should do the first sanding at 45 angle to achieve a cross cut.
Use care if you use a plastic wand three layers of blue tape recommended on the edges.
The exact same way you would with floor sanding machines but with a lot more elbow grease.
Use a handheld orbital sander ideally with a gear driven setting.
We recommend a hair bristle or felt bottomed wand to protect the floor.
As a general rule you always sand with the grain of the wood.
Then sand the entire area at the same angle moving constantly as you work.
Thoroughly vacuum the floor and other areas with wand and crevice device.
Use the sanding screen on a floor buffer to clear the uneven surfaces and create an extra smooth finish optional.
Use a vacuum cleaner and a wet rag to mop off the dust.
If you want to get a tanned look you can stain the wood and as a bonus it ll also offer further protection from use.
Only make one cut on both diagonals this will achieve a basic level.
