You can mimic it with pre made planks all day long but there s nothing like the real thing.
Beating a pine floor with hammer heads the claw portion of a hammer heavy chains or even a sack of bolts will create a rustic aged effect on the wood.
Replicating that look can be tricky unless you have the right tools glazes and a few tricks up your sleeve.
Unless you purchase salvaged flooring it s really hard to get the actual patina of worn down floors.
The warm worn wood floors that are perfectly and naturally aged.
For this demonstration we will be using 1 inch by 10 inch standard pine to show you how to make wood look old.
I wrote another post about aging and antiquing that shares some other techniques but today i ll focus solely on making new lumber look old.
It wasn t actually flooring though.
But i ve tried them all and i m going to show you the absolute easiest and most customizable way for you to make your new boards look like legitimate old wood.

So we headed to the hardware store and bought premium pine boards going through every plank in the store to find the least warped.
These flaws help make new wood look old.
To make a rustic wood sign i first stain the board with a dark stain.
It was cheaper and had more heart wood than the other pine i looked at.
The 8 foot 1x6 boards we used for creating our authentic looking aged barn wood cost about 4 each.
I used 8 shiplap siding and laid it down upside down.
Not to mention there were a lot of split boards.
Inspired by this look however we started looking for flooring we could buy that would look like that and even for that small space we couldn t find anything that looked just right.
So i decided to save the old floor boards at my shop for reclaimed projects down the line and install new wide plank pine flooring.
