For most organic food stains the marble institute recommends cleaning with a solution of 12 hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of ammonia. A high strength hydrogen peroxide such as a 12 percent solution removes some types of stains from light colored marble. If the tile grout has moderate stains then spray hydrogen peroxide on the grout lines to remove dirt and stains. Baking soda acts as a mild abrasive over the grout and helps clean it.

By mixing a cleaner with a base of hydrogen peroxide you will clean the grout and keep it looking fresh. Use hydrogen peroxide for light marble only. This is a very good and potent mixture as it cleans the grout but does not spoil it. Hydrogen peroxide is safe for many uses but i personally would not recommend it as cleaning product for a travertine floor or any surface that is a natural stone.

So long as the marble is light colored you can experiment with hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide very commonly used as a mild disinfectant is a powerful bleaching agent and is perfect for cleaning unstained white grout. Since darker marble is denser than its lighter counterpart it tends to be more stain resistant too. Hydrogen peroxide should be stored in a cool dark place away from light or it will degrade and lose it potency in a relative short period of time.

Persistent stains on light colored marble can be treated with hydrogen peroxide but this method should not be used on darker colored marble. Immediately apply it onto the tile grout and let it stay for sometime. Mix 1 2 cup of baking soda and 1 tsp. This requires you to occasionally clean the grout itself using a stronger cleaning solution.
