Place the nuts on the bolts and tighten. 4 straddle the toilet and lift up to remove it. If you discover minor rot around the toilet flange install a closet flange support under the flange to transfer the weight of the toilet to solid wood. Disconnect the water line using your wrench or pliers.

Remove the tank and set aside. Use your tile nippers to make sure each piece of tile will fit into the area surrounding the toilet flange. Once the tiles have been laid you will need to let them set overnight to make sure that they are completely dry. Do not overtighten these nuts or you will crack the porcelain.

Step 5 tile. Then unbolt the tank from the bowl by unscrewing the bolts in the bottom of the tank. Place toilet down over the new bolts and right onto the flange. Flush it several times to empty if of all water.

Remove the toilet leaving just the open floor drain. Do not put the toilet down on the wax ring anywhere else or you will distort the ring. If only the area directly below the flange is rotted you can install a two piece steel closet flange support. Don t tile around the toilet flange the circular piece that connects to the drain pipe and upon which the toilet itself will rest until the end.

When tiling a bathroom mark out your desired grid pattern on the floor and lay tile over the unobstructed areas first. Once you have your plywood laid down and secured you will be ready to lay your replacement tile down. Take out the floor bolts at the base of the toilet using a wrench. Turn off the water supply to the toilet at the wall.

Set new bolts in the flange and apply the holders. Unscrew the bolts at the base of the toilet bowl to remove it from the floor flange.
