How to use a drum floor sander.
Follow this process sanding each floorboard.
Move the machine in the direction of the grain whenever possible.
With an orbital floor sander it s hard to go wrong since it s difficult to take off too much wood.
There are two ways to use a drum sander.
When you reach the wall tilt the sander up to avoid damaging the floor.
Gradually feather cut out at the end of your pass by easing the sanding drum up with the control lever.
Some very rudimentary sanders such as those often for hire apply the drum but rocking the machine forward until the drum is on the floor.
The drum is applied to the floor by dropping a lever that lowers the drum onto the floor.
A drum sander is a completely different tool in that a loop of sandpaper continually moves around the drum ripping down the wood as far as you want to go.
Seriously though to break that down a little further when you are ready to start sanding you push the sander to get it moving and then lower the drum onto the floor.
Setting up the floor drum sander attaching the sanding belt the sanding belt attaches to the drum sander inside of a door which will be located on the front or side of the sander.
This also means you should lift up the sander using the lever or by tilting the machine back before you stop moving.
Sand the surface at a constant deliberate pace.
Keep sander in motion while sanding drum is engaged with the floor surface or stop marks will occur.
Various drum sanders may be slightly different so it s a good idea to have someone demo this when you pick up your sander.
