How to skin a coyote for a rug.
In it i will be discussing the art of skinning a coyote.
Tanning coyote hides is a simple process but it does require several days of dedicated work.
This is due to brain matter containing enzymes that effectively break down the collagen fibers in the skin without the use of toxic chemicals.

While commercial processors use chemicals many traditionalists will argue that brain tanning returns superior results when making a rug from coyote hide.
Backstitch at the end turn the rug over to the fur side and use the brush to remove any articles and make the fur soft.

Begin by making two cuts at each of the hind feet up to the anus.

Attach the rug backing to the skin side of the animal hide with carpet tape to temporarily hold it in place.
Place a tail stripper around the tailbone and pull the bone out.
This is how i have my fur skinner set up.
Now cut all around the hind feet.
Peel down the skin around the tail so that you can see the tailbone.
Scraping the hide is labor intensive and several specialized materials are required.
Coyote hides are moderately sized and do not carry as much grease as a raccoon or bear.
