How to shampoo an area rug at home.
Use a bristled brush to gently work the soap into your area rug following the nap of the material.
Allow the solution to sit on.
If the rug is very soiled then an all over steam clean is needed.
In the meantime get rid of the solution and fill the bowl with fresh clean water.
Check carefully to see if there is any color damage or fiber damage.
Go back and rinse that spot off.
Don t forget to shake out the rug pad too.
Start with a vacuumed rug.
Fill the other bucket with clean water.
Brush the talcum powder through the hair then shake it out.
If the rug needs to be refreshed sprinkle a dry rug shampoo onto the surface and let it sit for the recommended time then vacuum it up.
Take the rug outdoors or lay it out on a large tarp.

Using a sponge or brush scrub the shampoo or detergent deep into the rug until you re seeing suds.
If possible rotate the rug frequently so that it dries evenly.

Work the cleaner into the rug and let it sit for several minutes.

Allow the mixture to sit on the rug for several minutes.

Make a cleaning solution as directed by your chosen rug shampoo or mix two to three teaspoons of mild dish soap into one of the 5 gallon buckets with warm water.

Shake unscented talcum powder on fur sheepskin and hair on hide rugs and leave for several hours.
Apply a little to a small corner or patch mix in some water and let it settle for a few hours.
