I m not sure if this is the right place to post this but i m new to the hobby and the forum so here goes.
How to reinforce a floor for a fish tank.
For a display tank i use a rough estimate of 10 to 12 pounds per gallon of tank capacity which can be a bit more depending on the stand equipment and type of substrate used.
Last i looked i beleive they were 2x10 joists.
Might be different perhaps less with bare bottom display tanks display tanks but still heavy with thousands of gallons.
A hard floor would be better than a carpeted one because of the damages that can be done by the weight of the aquarium and stand and because of the water that will occasionally spill from the tank.
I build homes and put 2 tons of lumber in one pile in the middle of a floor that some people worry about a 55 gallon aquaruim sitting on.
I have a 75 gallon tank and i m think of upgrading to a 150 gallon or a little more and then using my current dt for a sump.
Now the aquarium is causing the floor to bounce actually your aquarium is doing the exact opposite.
Make sure that the flooring is level and has the structural strength to carry the weight.
I beleive its the load bearing wall as they all sit on the concrete basement walls.
This is my first home and first project like this.
That is total floor space not just where you sit the tank.
Just reinforcing the floor joists in the basement for my fish aquarium in the vid i said i hit 8 joists i hit 7 i was thinking of the length of the board and kept saying 8.
Unless it is sitting on steel legs that have to support that weight on 4 spots you are very safe.
My floor was doing fine until i put that 75 gallon aquarium in the room.
Fish tank weight and reinforcing the floor.
Hey everyone i have a 75 gallon tank with a 20 gallon long underneath my house was built in 1985 and was wondering if the structure built in the 1980 s is.
My tentative plan is to double up the floor joists around the area of the tank pour a small concrete footing and use jacks to support the added weight.
Reinforcing floor for aquarium.
