Before you get started refinishing you should give the teak a quick cleaning. Sand and protect the wood sand the teakwood to remove the gray colored surface grain. Wipe up the dust with a damp rag. Number or otherwise label each piece as you remove it to make it easier to put it back after refinishing the floor.

Use the fine grit sandpaper to remove any rough spots or runs from the first coat of varnish. Pick at least two test areas on the floor. Allow it to dry for several hours or as specified on the container. Roughen up two test areas and then coat them with urethane to begin refinishing hardwood floors.

How to refinish hardwood teak floors. Ensure to apply the oil to the sanded and surrounding area. Paint a thin coat of waterproof varnish over the entire teak flooring surface. Apply the oil to the repair working in the direction of the woodgrain.

The next step involves applying a chemical stripper to the surface of the teak. Remove any dust or oils on the outside of the teak. One in a high traffic zone the other along a wall or in a closet. In order to do this you can simply wipe it down with a rag.
