Osb is not attractive enough to serve as a floor covering not only is the chip board appearance unattractive but the surface is also often marked with grid lines and manufacturer markings.
How to protect floor with osb.
The house i m building in central arizona has a subfloor of 23 32 norbord truflor osb on i joists over a ventilated crawlspace.
I suggest you cover the osb with tyvek then and cover it in siding later.
Oh wow that s terrible.
Osb and plywood are both commonly sold in 4 by 8 foot sheets but osb can be made in much larger panels up to 8 by 24 feet.
Tyvek is cheap and will protect the osb better than paint and it ll be part of the future wall assembly anyway so you won t waste money buying paint.
I m building by myself and very slowly so it might take me three months before i have walls and a roof.
It was a pretty easy process and i applied two coats using a wide hand brush.
Oriented strand board or osb is a functional board not a finish board.
The fumes are pretty strong so you need to allow the room to ventilate with open windows for a few days after application.
As an alternative to plywood for a laminate subfloor osb board is less expensive and more ecological.
The osb will soak it up pretty good especially the first coat.
With its cross hatched flakes of wood arranged perpendicular to each other osb does have many good features and it is widely used and accepted within the building and remodeling industry for qualities such as low cost high strength and easy availability.
We used varathane floor finish to protect the floors.
Using larger osb panels can be an advantage when flooring a big or odd size shed reducing the number of joints in a floor.
It should be installed with the smooth side up and the joints should be staggered for moisture control and stability.
Using a painters pad with a long handle extension we applied three very thick coats.
Osb performs as well as plywood and it s just as smooth if not smoother.
It takes a while to dry between coats.

Well oriented strand board osb.
I mean very thick coats like puddles almost.
Osb when exposed to the weather will eventually swell and bubble up minor instances of bubbling can be sanded but for the most part the osb is irreparable and should be replaced.
