It is an industry standard to measure the actual hole opening in the floor to get the correct size of floor register or grille that you will need.
This month we d like to talk about how to measure floor vents and air registers to ensure you order the right size.
Pull the vent forward and out of the opening.

Note if the register or grille you are replacing is for a wall ceiling or floor.
If the vent is held in place by its own weight or tension pull the vent forward and out of the opening.
The overall outside size of your cover will be larger than the opening size this accompanies the outside border portion of the cover where the screw holes are placed.
Floor registers and grills can custom create registers and grill to fit any size opening.
Just let us know the opening size and we ll take it from there.
Ceiling and some sidewall registers will usually just be described as long side first such as a 10 6 or 12 8 but that can vary from brand to brand.
Do not measure the old register or vent.
Take out the existing floor register and measure the length width of the opening in inches all registers will be listed in inches.
If you are unable to remove the existing register or grille you will need to measure the outside of the existing piece.
